Want something to jump start your New Years? With a time to fellowship with other women and a concentrated effort to pursue God, Women’s Bible Connection will begin the year studying Beth Moore’s “A Heart Like His.”
“A Heart Like His” is an in-depth study that takes the reader through every twist and turn of David’s life as a shepherd, a refugee, and a king.
“Getting prepared for a study of David is somewhat like getting ready for a tornado. Gather the necessary supplies, (a Bible, your book and a pen). Find a refuge where you can study, and hold on for dear life.
“God taught me about himself and his servant, David, through this Bible study. He also taught me about myself. I now have a greater grasp of the woman I could be. I want to be a woman after God’s own heart. I also have confronted my weaknesses and have acknowledged vulnerable places in my life. The enemy will invariably strike these places and attempt to bring me defeat. I believe I have never been as aware of my capabilities, both good and bad. “ ~ Beth Moore
If you are interested in a journey that will propel an earnest desire to seek God as David did in the Psalms, please e-mail Lisa Scherer. The book cost $21 and can be purchased the first night of the class.

What if you, personally, could make the world a better place . . . by tomorrow? Debbie Macomber knows the secret to doing exactly that! In a world that too often seems stingy and grudging, she has witnessed how one simple act of generosity can yield unforeseen miracles. You are about to discover, through true stories, what happens when we commit intentional acts of generosity. Come with Debbie late one evening through the checkout line at the grocery store. Visit a midwestern train station. Discover the link between a submarine, a few bread crumbs, and some minnows. Visit ancient Galilee as a young boy volunteers his meager lunch and watches in amazement as it is multiplied many times over to feed five thousand. Listen in on a phone call with an elderly widow who has a life-touching gift to share. You will stand amazed at what God accomplishes when we make ourselves available through simple acts of generosity.
Debbie Macomber invites us to live with open hands, offering who we are and what we have to others. When we do so with an eager sense of expectancy, lives—including our own—are changed in ways we never envisioned. All it takes is one simple act.
The Tool Shop will be informed of our selections, and may have copies available in the near future. New winter reading! No registration is necessary.

Beacon of Blessings
Gloria Dei’s Beacon of Blessings has decided to once again partner with Joppa Outreach, a local non-profit organization created to foster a community of unconditional love, support and hope for the homeless.
For the past two years, Joppa’s Founder and Executive Director, Joe Stevens, provided propane gas for 50 dwellings, but the cost and need continue to increase. This year’s projection is $8,000 for the propane and heaters. So, the Beacon of Blessings formulated a plan to help Joppa.
The Share the Heat Campaign will begin this weekend in the narthex. Stop by the display to see how a $20 donation will provide one week’s heat or how a $80 donation will provide one month’s heat for a homeless individual. All donations will receive a tax deduction receipt from Joppa.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask any of the Beacon of Blessings members: Kory Schramm, Jacquelyn Brienzo, Kim Walker, Alice Wegner, Paula Spark, Allison Brienzo, Kim Phillips and Pastor Phillips.
If you have a heart for helping the poor and the needy in the Des Moines area, please call Pastor Phillips at 278-5544, ext. 204.
