GriefShare Support Group for Adults
Gloria Dei offers a grief support group every Fall and Winter to help individuals who are mourning the death of a loved one. The group uses GriefShare , a 13-week curriculum written by Church Initiative, a not-for-profit, nondenominational, organization whose aim is to support individuals through the grieving process.
Curriculum
A video is played each week with different renowned Christian speakers and counselors talking about subjects such as:
- When Your Dreams Fall Apart
- The Seasons of Grief
- Emotions of Grief
- When Your Spouse Dies
- When Your Child Dies
- Your Family and Grief
- Growing through Grief
After watching the video, participants gather into small groups for discussion on the weekly topics.
Each participant is provided a GriefShare workbook which includes daily devotions, Bible verses and questions that parallel with the weekly topics. The workbook is designed to help participants sort through their feelings and emotions on a daily basis.

All Registration Forms should be dropped off at the church office at 8301 Aurora Avenue, Urbandale. Office hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 pm.

Childcare
Childcare is provided free of charge.
Cost
There is no cost to join a group. However, there is a suggested donation of $18 to cover individual workbooks. Donations can be given at any time. Checks should be made payable to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
GriefShare Support Group for Children
Stepping Stones: Thursday, Sept. 6 from 6:30-8 p.m.
Stepping Stones, a 6-week grief-support group for young children aimed at providing children a safe place to process their grief. Different mediums, such as play, sensory activities, puppetry and movement exercises will be used to reach children at their level. Each session will be divided into two age groups: 3- to 5-year-olds and 6- to 10-year-olds.

Grief Support Library
To help supplement the groups, Gloria Dei has invested in many grief support books that can be checked out at any time. Please visit the church library located outside the Youth Center. Check out the books that you can check out at the GriefShare library.
